Sunday

Boat Regatta

After the pandemonium of the raft race died down we meandered around the river looking at all the spruced up boats, whilst the barge owners played silly songs & talked to passers by. It all got a bit Rosie & Jim tbh.

Salty  Freshwater sea dog

This barge rightfully won best dressed.
Beach huts, balloons, flags, donkey rides & they were all hand drawn & painted. Impressive stuff.

Or...you know, have a mid-life crisis, ditch the sensible barge & paddle board down the River. Why not!?

Friday

Raft Race

I was cheering on the side of the river's bank in the rain. I was probably about five & I was watching my Aunt paddle down the River with a water gun hooked under her arm. There were water balloons, eggs & flour bombs being thrown left, right & centre. It took me a little while to realise that this was an extraordinary event not just her regular weekend fix.

That was however many moons ago.
The charity raft race has been going for thirty years now & this year the theme was film characters.

It was all very Hollywood, with Disney, Pixar & Bond sailing down the Wey. But then things got competitive...

I'm so sorry "The Jungle Book Boaters" but your sinking ship was hilarious viewing!

Nerds, I present to you: The Starship Enterprise.
Gotta say though, snow ploughs as paddles - genius!

And then in last place was the numpties in penguin onesies...Happy Feet?!

Monday

British Summer Time

Coat. Check.
Wellies. Check.
Mens Hoodie. Check.

It was pretty early in the morning but com'on it's nearly July! I went out dressed for ruddy November.
We walked the dogs along the river pretending it was sunny and that it looked a little more like this

Scooby didn't bat an eyelid at the drizzly weather, and decided to leap straight into the river at full throttle. I think his highlights of the walk included finding the nearest bit of river driftwood and narrowly avoiding decapitation via a rower's blade. (I'd be pretty pleased with my day if I dodged decapitaion too)

And Elvie? Not so pleased or content. She's a bit of an old gal and just wanted her bed. Nothing new there.

And as for the sun... well I think I got this one covered. I spent Sunday afternoon doing a sun dance with my six year old cousin.
It was pretty inventive. I don't think the sun gods have seen this piece before. I think it might just work...*checks BBC weather*

What did you get up to this weekend?

Wednesday

Down By The Banks

Dogs leapt into the river chasing their sticks downstream. People fished, kayaked, sunbathed, cycled and strolled their way along the meander of the waterway.

Everything's just that little bit better when the sun shines, eh.
