Kotor, Budva & Sveti Stefan | Montenegro Photo Essay

Last summer I posted my polaroids from Montenegro, but during a freak I-need-to-get-organised-before-the-new-year kinda day, I drank a four shot flat white and began sorting random drawers. You know the type that have no order; they have cat food, cables, light bulbs, pins, cameras, blue tac...the list goes on.

When the caffeine wore off, I slumped on to the sofa and began sorting photo folders. Hidden amongst them were my photos from the Bay of Kotor, Budva and a brief stop off at Sveti Stefan.

They made me miss travelling so much. I want some decent sunshine and lakes...oh summer you're so easily missed!

Saturday

Calm After The Storm | La Tania

You know how I mentioned the weather's changeable temperament... well on Saturday the weather turned and our plans had to be altered.
So, we sat, tea in hand, watching the layers of clouds roll in and the lightening spark up the surronding mountains.
The Alps are really a breathtaking part of the world, and I've loved being here in late summer.
Everywhere you look, spikey mountains roll and jagged rocks burst out. Thunder gently trundled through the valley and slowly became a rumble echoing through the pines from the distance.

The rain cleared and the sky blended to blue again, so we flung open the doors but left the fire burning into the night.

Being our last day, we 'had toeat up the leftovers. That equated to toasted marshmallows squidged between Oreos & chocolate Leibniz biscuits - try it! It's as amazing as it sounds.

I couldn't think of better way to conclude our trip, it also prepared us for our last adventure - a hearty breakfast of whitewater rafting!

Thursday

Fig & Goats Cheese Toastie

If there was going to be one chosen fruit from the Gods, I think figs were their choice.
Forever versatile. Delicious in salads and puddings. What is this, some kind of fruit wizardry!?

What makes figs taste even better, is cheese (to be fair, cheese makes everything taste better) but, still, this marriage could only end well.

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall does three good things.
Well, these are two of my two good things.

Enjoy!

Trip To Tenby | Part II

Tenby is like a mixture of Brighton & Lyme Regis.
Marrying the best of both: the quirky shops and bohemian beer gardens with beautiful Regency/Victorian buildings, a stunning beach & harbour and a rich cultural history.

I think Tenby has an exotic air about it. The seaside town is hedged with a medieval stone wall, giving it a bit of a European-y vibe; the enclosed feel really reminded me of Dubrovnik. The town is technically foreign as it was established by the Normans and has an Anglo, Welsh, Flemish, French patchwork of a heritage.

If you're on the South coast of the UK it's obligatory to catch mackerel and line crabs, or at least attempt to!
Crab in Dale & go mackerel fishing here, in Tenby. Tenby, itself, means little fortress of fish, so, hopefully that means a mighty seafood infused dinner.
Along with every pub indulging the menu with today's catch, other foodie pleasures include: amazing cream teas, a giant ice cream parlour & a foodie market on a Friday selling stone oven baked pizza. And sweet tie-dye t-shirts but that's another story.

We were only there for a short time, but could happily spend a whole weekend playing rounders on the beach, scouting for pirates at the ol' lookout points and exploring the art gallery & museum.

If you're in South Wales, go to Tenby, GO.

Friday

Trip To Tenby | Part I

We whizzed along the country tracks, parked the car & (obviously) followed the smell of cake.
The trail lead us to a faultless factory line of five grannies, huddled in a fire station, making hundreds of Welsh cakes. Fresh from the griddle, they were tossed into a brown paper bag & dusted with sugar.
It doesn't get more traditional than that! I got ten for £2 - warm, a little cake-y, a little scone-y, a little donut-y, these were absolutely delicious.

We pattered down the colourful high street towards the (even more colourful) pastel infused beach front.
After snaking through the shops & market stalls, we veered left down a dark alley past an old Tudor Merchant's House to the harbour. Where we took some polaroids, admired the lifeboat house & ate our Welsh cakes.
